A message from Grantmakers Without Borders' Executive Director, John Harvey
After nearly ten years as Grantmakers Without Borders' Executive Director, I've decided that the time is right for me to pass the baton onto someone else and to step down from Gw/oB's leadership. Since January I have been working with Gw/oB's Board of Directors to develop a transition plan, one based on my commitment to staying with Gw/oB for as long as is needed to secure a new leader and to integrate her or him into this wonderful organization.
This decision was indeed a tough one for me to make. I absolutely love Gw/oB and its amazing community. My time with Gw/oB has been without a doubt the most challenging and rewarding of my career, and I've made so many personal and professional connections that I know I will keep for life. It truly has been a privilege to lead this organization from its beginning in 2000 to now. What an amazing platform Gw/oB has provided me to learn and to make a difference in our world.
While I still feel as creative and energized as ever, it's important for Gw/oB that I hand over leadership to someone new. My housemate likes to say that sometimes people stick around so long, they confuse being in a groove with being in a rut. I would never want this to happen, for myself and for Gw/oB. I'm excited to see what new great things a new leader will bring to this exceptional organization.
I am very, very grateful to have had the opportunity to lead Gw/oB in its first decade. I very much look forward to continuing to work with the many wonderful people I've met through Gw/oB in the years ahead, as we continue our efforts to bring about a more just world through global social change philanthropy.
Thank you!
In peace and solidarity,
John
